Tip For Spring 2009

Welcome to the new year 2009.
Over the coming months we at the Junior League shall provide you with some very helpful advice and tips from some of Ireland's best golf coaches.

The weather here in Co Clare the last two week has been very good for this time of the year thus the golf courses are open and hopefully you have all been out playing golf.

this months tip is On Course Management and if put to use it will see your golf improve

MANAGING YOUR GAME

The Three Keys

1. Know Thy Self - Knowing what you can and can't do, how far you hit each club and what your limitations are is the key to playing smart golf.
Check your practice journal the answers are in there.

2. Stay Out of Trouble - Play away from hazards and trouble, it's amazing how many strokes you can save by missing it in the right places. Before hitting your next shot, take into consideration your lie, course and weather conditions and how you're feeling on that particular day.

3. Get yourself a routine and stick to it. A routine will help you play more consistently and get your mind of mechanics.

4. Don’t automatically shoot at every single pin. The center of the green is the best pace to aim for most amateurs, regardless of where the pin is

5. Have Fun - Never forget the reason we play, which is to have fun. A bad shot is just a bad shot, and it's no help at all to keep thinking about it for more than a few seconds.
The Four Stroke-Saving Tips.

The Four Drills

1. Practice your routine so it becomes second nature.

2. Hit different clubs on the range and leave your driver at home.

3. Practice with purpose, set yourself goals and promise yourself you won't leave until you achieve them, simulate course conditions as much as possible

4• Swing easy...swing easy...the number one problem with most players is they try to hit the ball too hard. Once you learn you don't need to kill it for the ball to go a long way, your scores will plummet.
